Surely the Presence of God is in this Place

There is a subtle difference in meaning between the phases, "The church of the people," and "The church is its people," but both statements are true.   We, the people of the community, and we, the people of as the Body of Christ, are the Church. It has been so since the earliest gatherings of the disciples and will continue so through the ages to come. And so, we the people, take our place as and of the church among those who have come before us at Emanuel and those who will follow, so that the church may continue to fulfill its mission to spread the Gospel, the "good news," of Jesus Christ. Scripture reminds us in many places that our Lord knows us by name.   Frequently the mission of the early church begins with a name being spoken.   "Simon and James," were called to be the church.   It seems that it is good to be called by name as people of the church.   Let us be faithful to this tradition, to call others and be called by name.
